DeeWunn

DeeWunn, born Damone Walker on May 5, 1981, in St. Andrew, Jamaica, began his career as an emcee competing in rap battles across Jamaica. He was introduced into the music industry through the dancehall group Ward 21, and became known for a style that fused hip hop with Jamaican Patois.

In 2010 he was brought on as a songwriter and vocalist by Ward 21, penning material for in-house artists including Timberlee and Natalie Storm. His breakthrough as a performer came in 2013 with "Mek It Bunx Up," featuring Marcy Chin and produced by Ward 21's Kunley McCarthy; the song gained international traction after choreographer Parris Goebel built a viral dance routine around it in 2015, and it went on to accumulate roughly 150 million YouTube views and over 20 million Spotify streams. It was subsequently signed to Sony UK's Ministry of Sound imprint and remixed by Australian rapper Iggy Azalea.

DeeWunn worked as a songwriter at GeeJam Studios in Portland, Jamaica, and released further singles including "Dynamite" featuring Parris Goebel (2016), "Tun Suh" (2018), and "Back It Up, Drop It" (2019), the latter featured in Samsung Galaxy S10 advertising. He released a debut album in 2016 and, after signing with the Los Angeles label Waxploitation, put out the album BANGGAZ in 2023. He relocated to Montreal, Quebec, in January 2015 and continues to be based there.
