Masicka

Javaun Fearon was born and raised in Independence City, Portmore, in a single-parent household. He attended Calabar High School in Kingston, where peers reportedly nicknamed him "The Future" for his lyrical ability. He cites dancehall veterans such as Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel as formative influences, and came up in an era when Portmore-based artists around Kartel's orbit dominated the genre's youth movement.

Masicka released his first solo material around age 18 and spent the early 2010s building a reputation through mixtape tracks like "Heaven" and "Badness." His single "InfraRed" is widely cited as his true breakout, establishing him as a commercially viable solo act, and he went on to found his own collective and label movement, Genahsyde (later rebranded 1Syde).

His 2021 studio debut, 438, entered at No. 2 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. In early 2023 he signed with Def Jam Recordings, a deal that produced his sophomore album Generation of Kings (December 2023), featuring Popcaan, Dexta Daps, Spice, Chronic Law, Lila Iké and Fridayy, which topped the US iTunes Reggae chart.

Masicka's public rivalries — most notably a long-running, largely lyrical back-and-forth with Alkaline — are the most searchable controversies tied to his name; no well-documented arrests or criminal court cases specific to Masicka turned up in available reporting. As of 2026 Masicka remains a leading commercial force in dancehall, continuing to release music under Def Jam and his own 1Syde banner, frequently named alongside Skillibeng, Skeng and Valiant as one of the artists who moved dancehall's center of gravity toward trap-influenced production and delivery.
