The Alliance

The Alliance is a collective of Jamaican dancehall deejays formed in 2003 by Bounty Killer together with a group of close collaborators he referred to as 'the heavyweights.' The founding roster included Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall, Mavado, and Vybz Kartel, artists who were, at the time, among the most prominent rising voices in dancehall. The group functioned less as a musical act in the conventional sense than as a business and creative bloc, with members frequently voicing the same riddims, appearing together on stage shows, and lending each other visibility within the industry.

Vybz Kartel left the group following a highly publicized dispute, going on to establish his own rival faction, a split that fed into one of dancehall's most consequential rivalries of the 2000s, pitting Kartel's camp against artists aligned with Mavado. Concerns were also raised within the industry that the Alliance's coordinated approach to selecting riddims amounted to an attempt to control which producers and songs gained traction, tensions that contributed to friction with figures such as Ninja Man.

In 2011 the collective expanded with the formation of the Alliance Next Generation, bringing in younger artists under the same banner. As of Wikipedia's account, the Alliance's core lineup has included Bounty Killer, Busy Signal, Kiprich, and Bling Dawg, with Mavado, Vybz Kartel, and Aidonia counted among its past members. Documentation of the group's internal structure and full membership history remains limited, largely tied to press coverage of individual members' careers rather than the collective itself.
