Fathead

Fathead was born Vernon Rainford in Kingston, Jamaica, and was already an established deejay by the time he began working alongside Yellowman between 1980 and 1982, at the height of Yellowman's fame. The pair performed regularly at the Aces Disco in St. Thomas, and their live recording there, Live at Aces, is regarded as the first live dancehall album ever released. Its success led to studio follow-ups, Bad Boy Skanking and For Your Eyes Only, both issued in 1982.

As Yellowman turned toward solo material, Fathead continued to record with other artists of the period, scoring a hit in 1983 with "It's Me" and voicing combinations with Beenie Man, Early B, Johnny Ringo, and Ranking Toyan. He also recorded with Peter Metro during this stretch.

Fathead relocated to the United States, where, according to Yellowman's own later account, he became involved in the Miami drug trade. He was shot and killed in Florida on 19 October 1988, at age 27. Documentation of his life beyond his recording partnership with Yellowman remains limited.
