Daddy Screw

Daddy Screw, born Michael Alexander Johnson on March 29, 1968, in Kingston, Jamaica, began deejaying as a student at Vauxhall Comprehensive High School and released his first single, "Dimbo Bucket," in 1984 while working on sound systems including Black Stone. He recorded "Madda Mampie" for Tuff Gong Records, and through a Tuff Gong producer connection met Dave Kelly, who went on to produce much of his best-known later material.

His signature hits include "Body Good Like Gold," "Sexy Kerry," "Lover Man," "Model Pon Yuh One Time Man," "Big Tings A Gwaan" (featuring Donovan Steele), and "Dreaming" (featuring Maxi Priest). He released two studio albums in the 1990s, Loverman (1993, VP Records) and Multiple Choice (1996, Steely & Clevie), and toured as part of Dave Kelly's Mad House Crew alongside Terror Fabulous, Sharon Forrester, Tinga Stewart, and others, including a live album, Mad House Crew Live (1994), and performances on the 'Champions in Action' tour with Tiger, Sanchez, and Terror Fabulous.

Daddy Screw later relocated to Denver, Colorado, eventually settling in Aurora, before spending time back in Jamaica in the 2000s; as of a 2016 Jamaica Observer profile, he remained based in the Denver area while continuing musical activity.
