Konshens

Konshens was born Garfield Delano Spence on January 11, 1985, in Kingston, Jamaica. He grew up immersed in music alongside his older brother, Delus, with whom he later formed the singing duo SoJah, and he has cited veteran singer Beres Hammond as a formative influence.

As part of SoJah, he and Delus built an early following, but it was as a solo artist that Konshens broke through, releasing "Pon Di Corner" in 2005. He went fully solo around 2008 with "Winner," whose hip-hop-inflected production hinted at the crossover sound that would come to define much of his subsequent career.

Konshens has released a string of studio albums, including Real Talk (2010), Mental Maintenance (2012), and Red Reign, which debuted at No. 3 on the US Billboard Current Reggae Albums chart, along with later projects like Pool Party and its 2026 sequel, Pool Party 2.0. Signature singles including "Gal a Bubble," "Bruk Off Yuh Back," and "Turn Me On" established him as one of dancehall's most bankable global touring acts, and he has collaborated with Chris Brown, Cardi B, Doja Cat, Major Lazer, and Rick Ross. In 2024–2025 he publicly fell out with longtime producer-collaborator Rvssian over an alleged unpaid financial dispute.

Through his independent label Subkonshus Music, Konshens has positioned himself as one of dancehall's most consistent international crossover ambassadors, credited with helping popularize dancehall-pop fusion for global audiences well beyond the Caribbean diaspora, including a strong following in East Africa. As of 2026 he remains highly active, releasing new music and performing internationally.
